Shoebox Competition – you just got an extension!

August 31, 2016 By

Based on the great feedback Shoebox Timeline has been receiving from bloggers all across Australia, they’ve decided to extend their competition deadline! As you’ve stated, it takes time and effort to write a blog post and create a Shoebox slideshow, so they want to make sure everyone has enough time to get their blog posts perfect. You’ve now got until the end of Monday 5th of September, so you can get busy over the weekend. The entries so far have been fantastic so keep them coming! Here’s some tips and advice on how to use Shoebox to create your entry.

Shoebox Tips & Advice

Shoebox Timeline is a nifty way to store, share, collaborate, create and organise your media – both personally and for your blog or business.

With so many Aussie platforms taking over the world (hello Xero, Campaign Monitor, Envato to name but a few!) Shoebox is the new kid on the block, having gone live only three months ago, and it’s definitely one to keep an eye on – and be an early adopter of!

So you’ve logged into Shoebox, now what?

Well if you’re reading this, it’s possible you’re planning to build a slideshow as part of your entry to win the Ultimate Blogger Kit, so we’ll cut straight to the chase.

We’ve made this little Shoebox Slideshow, a ‘how to make a Shoebox Slideshow’ slideshow in a Slideshow… but seriously that’s about as complicated as it gets.

The best way to learn about Shoebox is to jump in there and use it.  Once you get your head around Timelines, Events and Slideshows you’ve pretty much covered all the bases.  It’s not a complicated program to use – but some of the terminology is a little new.

There are three main function of Shoebox: Timelines, Events and Slideshows

You can have more than one timeline!  Timelines can be set up for a specific moment in your life, a project you’re working on, or you can set one up for your whole life – the options are limitless.

Why are Timelines good?  Well they let you sort media in a chronological way.  This is done by creating events within your timeline.  Timelines and Events allow you to sort your media in a logical way and they also give you levels of control over how you share media (if in fact you want to share it – you may prefer to keep it private).

When it comes to sharing, you can make a whole Timeline (or just an Event) public if you want, sharing it with the world, or you can just share it directly with other friends.  You can invite friends to collaborate as well – meaning if you’re all working on a project together, say you’re part of a club/team or you’re at an event – you can all add media to the same Event (or Timeline).

Media can be uploaded direct from your computer, a Dropbox file, Facebook or Instagram.  You can upload straight into your Library (the file where everything you’ve ever uploaded goes) or you can add media directly into an Event.

FINALLY Shoebox has a nifty Slideshow function that allows you to make sweet little videos of your media both simply and quickly.

There are numerous templates to choose from, a music library to use (or upload your own tunes if you prefer), title slides can be added and with a few clicks you can download a slideshow that can be embedded into a blog post or downloaded as a file ready to share on Facebook.

On top of all this, Shoebox is a great way to store your media files securely online.

So what are you going to use Shoebox for?  Your imagination is your only limit…

Thanks. It’s good to have a couple of goes and then you get the hand of it.

I wasn’t going to try this, however since I have an event I will be speaking at before Problogger next week, I thought it might be worth giving it a go on my website for something different. There will be so many bloggers more talented than myself. So, I will have a play with the idea of using it in my blog posts to tell a story.
